High humidity can pose a problem in almost any home. If you’re on the hunt for the best dehumidifier for your house, one of the features you need to consider first is the rate of moisture removal. Standard home dehumidifiers range from 20 to 70 pints in size or capacity.
Starting early 2020, most of the previously 50-pint rated dehumidifiers are labeled 30-pint or 35-pint. Former 30-pint dehumidifiers are now rated 20-pint or 22-pint. Since they aren’t that much different, I’ve included a list of the best 30-pint and 35-pint dehumidifiers in the market.
After hours of research, I chose seven different models that perform best in different conditions. Take a look below to see which one will be perfect for your home.

Best 30-pint Dehumidifier
BLACK+DECKER BDT30WTB

This BLACK+DECKER unit is one of the top-performing 30-pint dehumidifiers for spaces within 3,000 square feet. It is incredibly energy efficient with an Energy Star certification and an IEF of 1.8L/kWh.
This small dehumidifier has an electronic control panel mounted on top with an LED display. Use the adjustable humidistat to set humidity from 35% to 80% and the dehumidifier will automatically cycle on and off to maintain this setting. The unit has an 8-pint bucket with a water-level window and a bucket full alert system. If operating in a high humidity area, you may need to empty the bucket up to four times a day.
In case you do not have the time for manual emptying, this unit offers continuous drainage functionality. It comes with a 3.28 ft. (1 meter) drain hose and a drain cap. If you lose either of these, simply use a standard garden hose. To allow gravity drainage, make sure to place the dehumidifier higher than the drain and position the hose downward without any kinks or twists.
BLACK+DECKER dehumidifiers operate from 41°F to 89.6°F with auto defrost functionality to prevent ice formation. The unit has a top exhaust which makes for a pleasant sound on high fan speed since the fan noise masks the compressor noise well. It also comes with a filter on the back with a Check Filter light indicator that illuminates after 250 hours of use.
Some disadvantages to the BLACK+DECKER are the side handles and the lack of cord storage. This makes the unit less portable than other dehumidifiers of similar size. It also comes with a standard one-year warranty.
Pros
- Energy Star certified
- Custom humidity control
- Continuous drainage with included hose
- Low power consumption
Cons
- Poor portability
- Average quality and durability
Honeywell TP50WK

Another great option for efficient moisture removal up to 30 pints per day (previously 50 pints) is the Honeywell TP50WK dehumidifier. It is ideal for small to medium size rooms up to 3,000 square feet. This Energy Star rated dehumidifier ensures reliable performance and greater savings.
Honeywell features a top control panel with soft touch buttons and LED display. The humidistat allows automatic humidity adjustment based on your preferred conditions. Select the humidity level from 30% to 90% and monitor the current humidity on the front mirage display. The unit also includes a 24-hour on/off timer, and Sleep mode for a quiet operation.
This 30-pint dehumidifier comes with a very small 7-pint tank with the standard tank full alert and auto shutoff functionality. The water tank is easy to remove and empty with a comfort-grip handle and anti-spill splash guards. During a 24-hour operation, you may need to empty the tank up to four times. Inofia PD161C

This 30-pint dehumidifier from Inofia is ideal for light to moderate dampness in a small basement, garage, laundry room up to 1,500 square feet. Unlike other 30- to 35-pint dehumidifiers that are previously rated to remove 50 pints of moisture, the Inofia is intentionally designed with a smaller size. On account of its 4-pint (0.5 gallon) water reservoir, this is probably the lightest and smallest 30-pint dehumidifier you can get.
As you would with any other modern dehumidifier, select a target humidity between 30% and 80% on the top control panel with digital humidistat. The unit will stop dehumidifying when your desired humidity level is reached and automatically restart when the humidity rises again. It has four buttons on the top control panel for the fan speed, timer, humidity setting, and the power switch. The LCD display shows the current humidity, temperature, and working status.
Like most dehumidifiers, this small 30-pint unit features a full tank alert, auto shutoff, auto restart and auto defrost features, along with the respective Full Tank and Defrost lights. You can attach the included 6.56 ft (2 meters) drain hose to allow continuous drainage to a low-level drain. You can choose between two fan speeds to maximize moisture removal. The lights indicate if the unit is operating at Low or High speed, and if the timer is set.
Inofia draws lower power compared to other dehumidifiers, but works more slowly. It is not the most energy efficient 30-pint dehumidifier you can get, but due to its size and portability, it’s perfect for small rooms with moisture problems.
Pros
- Small and portable
- Custom humidity control
- Easy to use control panel
- Continuous drainage with hose included
Cons
- Small tank capacity
- Low energy efficiency
Danby DDR030BDWDB

SImilar to other dehumidifiers, Danby features an onboard humidistat that allows you to set the humidity from 35% to 85% in 5% increments. It also features Smart Dehumidify and Continuous operation with the respective indicator lights. The unit operates from 41°F to 90°F with an auto defrost feature that stops operation to melt ice buildup. Built with four wheels and two side handles, the unit can be easily dragged anywhere in the house. The auto defrost feature shuts off the unit when the temperature drops as low as 41°F. Danby is of average quality with a longer warranty period of two years.

- Energy Star certified
- Smart humidity control
- Continuous drain option
- 2-year warranty
Cons
- Loud operation
- Average quality and durability
Best 35-pint Dehumidifier
hOmeLabs HME020006N

The hOmeLabs brand is quite new to the market, but in the short time they have been available, hOmeLabs dehumidifiers are among the top choices of homeowners. This unit offers almost anything you need in a dehumidifier at a good value. Under the 2019 DOE standards, this model is rated to remove up to 30 pints of moisture in spaces from 1,500 to 3,000 square feet (and 50 pints under the 2012 standards). This Energy Star rated dehumidifier ensures high performance without compromising costs.
Automatic humidity control allows you to select a target humidity level from 35% to 90% and maintains this without your constant supervision. You can set the timer to delay start or stop for 0.5 to 24 hours. Choose from Comfort, Turbo, and Continuous modes. The Turbo button increases fan speed, Comfort automatically sets humidity and fan speed based on the ambient temperature, while Continuous enables nonstop dehumidification.
This 30-pint dehumidifier is built almost exactly like the 50-pint model, except for the moisture removal rate and power drawn. It has the same 14 pint or 1.8 gallon tank with auto shutoff and full tank alert. For continuous drainage, attach a standard garden hose (not included) into the drain outlet at the back. Built with four wheels and two side handles, the unit can be easily dragged anywhere in the house. The auto defrost feature shuts off the unit when the temperature drops as low as 41°F.
You’ll notice that hOmeLabs is made of light and thin plastic. On the upside, this makes the unit lighter and more portable than others. On the downside, the unit feels cheap and less durable. Since it is a side-exhausting unit, it produces a less pleasant noise than top exhaust models. However, the reliability and affordability of hOmeLabs far outweighs the drawbacks. The unit also comes with a longer two-year warranty.
Pros
- Energy Star certified
- High moisture removal rate
- Custom humidity control
- Continuous draining option
- Budget price
- 2-year warranty
Cons
- Low quality design
Frigidaire FFAD3533W1

Another 35-pint dehumidifier that’s previously 50-pint rated is this Frigidaire unit. Frigidaire is known for high quality home appliances. The powerful performance and excellent build quality of Frigidaire dehumidifiers earns them a top spot among current home dehumidifiers. All Frigidaire units have an Energy Star rating to help save money on your bills.
With custom humidity control and a 24-hour timer, you can select a target humidity level from 35% to 85% and delay start or stop operation after 0.5 to 24 hours. For maximum moisture removal, choose from three fan speeds: Low, Med, and High. The unit has a top exhaust which masks compressor noise for a more pleasant noise output.
This 30-pint dehumidifier has a very large 16-pint (2 gallon) water tank similar to that of the 50-pint model. The unit comes with the standard auto shut-off feature that automatically stops operation when the container is almost full, as well as a bucket full alert that will tell you when this happens. Manual draining is made convenient with the front loading bucket with handle and splash guard. For even more convenience, attach a standard garden hose onto the drain outlet to enable continuous drainage into a low-level drain or sink.
Frigidaire’s SpaceWise design includes rolling casters and a top handle for added portability. The unit also comes with a removable washable air filter and an indicator light that will remind you to check the filter. Frigidaire dehumidifiers stand out for their exceptional performance even in temperatures as low as 41°F. They work continuously in lower temperatures without an auto defrost mode that turns off the unit periodically to melt ice.
One downside is that Frigidaire comes with the usual one-year warranty. With its high end quality, Frigidaire is also at the high end in terms of cost. If you want the highest quality and performance, prepare to spend a little more.
Pros
- Energy Star certified
- Effortless humidity control
- Quick and efficient moisture removal
- SpaceWise portable design
- Low temperature operation
- High tank capacity
- Continuous draining option
Cons
- Higher price
- 1-year warranty
Vremi VRM010369N

This Moisture Maniac dehumidifier by Vremi is the best and most powerful you can get. It filters out up to 35 pints of moisture from the air in 3,000 square feet of space. The 35-pint Vremi is essentially the same in appearance and functionality as the 50-pint model except for the smaller tank capacity and coverage area.
Like most of our top picks, Vremi is Energy Star certified. Standard features like auto shut-off, auto restart, and auto defrost functions are also present. It features an easy-to-use control panel with digital display, an adjustable humidistat, and a Turbo mode for maximum moisture removal. This unit is comparatively light for a 35-pint dehumidifier built with wheels and side handles for easy movement.
You will have to manually empty the water tank up to three times a day if you opt to use the 13 pint or 1.6 gallon reservoir. Similar to other modern home dehumidifiers, Vremi gives you the option for continuous drainage. Attach a hose (not included) to the drain outlet and make sure the unit is placed higher to allow gravity to pull the water and direct into a nearby drain or sink.
Due to the side exhaust, some users observed a loud buzzing noise coming from the compressor. This could be a deal breaker for you if you want an all-around dehumidifier for your home. But if you’re going to use this in a secluded space with high humidity like the basement or garage, then the Vremi 35-pint dehumidifier is a good choice for you.
Pros
- Energy Star certified
- High moisture removal rate
- Easy-to-use controls
- High tank capacity
- Continuous draining option
Cons
- Louder than dehumidifiers of similar size
Where to Use a 30-pint Dehumidifier
Mini portable dehumidifiers have a capacity as low as 250 ml per day, while full-size dehumidifiers can go all the way to 70 pints. For small to medium sized rooms, a 30-pint dehumidifier may be the most ideal. Depending on the brand, they’re good for spaces anywhere from 500 to 3,000 square feet.
Dehumidifiers with a smaller coverage area are great for bathrooms (or bedrooms if they’re quiet enough). Small 30-pint units like the Inofia can also be used in boats and RVs. The 35-pint units, which have a slightly bigger capacity and coverage area, may be perfect for large rooms with moderate dampness like the living or sleeping area, or even a small garage.
Conversely, higher levels of humidity in larger areas will require a more powerful dehumidifier. Dehumidifiers with higher moisture removal rates (50 to 70 pints per day) are ideal for more chilly and damp areas like the basement or garage. They’re typically louder than smaller dehumidifiers, which makes them perfect for a secluded space such as the basement.
Measure the square footage of your space and look for signs of moisture and dampness. Once you’ve determined these two factors, compare with the guide table below to see if a 30-pint dehumidifier is what you need.
Square Footage | 500-1,000 sq ft | 1,000-2,000 sq ft | 2,000-3,000 sq ft |
Moisture Level | Recommended Dehumidifier Capacity | ||
Moderately Damp | 20 pints | 20-25 pints | 30 pints |
Very Damp | 20-25 pints | 25-30 pints | 30-35 pints |
Wet | 25-30 pints | 30 pints | 35-40 pints |
Extremely Wet | 30 pints | 30-35 pints | 40-50 pints |
What Features To Consider When Choosing a Dehumidifier
Aside from the rate of moisture removal, the following factors also affect your decision on the best 30-pint dehumidifier for you.
Tank Capacity
Dehumidifiers collect the moisture in an internal tank. Once the tank is full, you will need to remove it from the unit and empty the water manually. For full-size units, you may have to do this at least once up to a couple times a day or a week depending on room conditions. Some 30- to 35-pint dehumidifiers have a large tank capacity similar to the 50-pint counterpart. Most dehumidifiers also offer an optional continuous drainage through a hose (may not be included with the unit).
Coverage Area
You want to get a dehumidifier that can cover as much space as you have. The amount of area you need to dehumidify also affects the efficiency of the dehumidifier. The larger the area, the longer it will take to finish the job. Most 30-pint dehumidifiers have a recommended coverage area from 1,500 to 3,000 square feet. This range is merely an estimate for average room conditions. For heavier moisture content, you may need a higher capacity.
Energy Efficiency
Most 30-pint dehumidifiers draw 300 to 500 Watts of power. How efficiently they use this power is what makes the difference. Look for the Energy Star label to make sure you’re getting an energy efficient unit per the EPA’s requirements. They are about 20% more energy efficient than a non-Energy Star model. You can find the energy efficiency information in the manual, on the unit itself, or in the Energy Star website.
Portability
A 30-pint dehumidifier is generally small and portable, but 35-pint dehumidifiers are usually exactly the same in appearance as the higher capacity 50-pint models, making them less portable. Most dehumidifiers come with handles, caster wheels, and a cord storage for easy movement across different rooms. If portability is a big factor for you and your humidity issues aren’t that severe, then a smaller 30-pint may be enough.
Noise Level
This is important if you want to use your dehumidifier near your living and sleeping spaces. Noise is subjective, but what the quietest dehumidifiers have in common is the top exhaust. Since the fans make a pleasant white noise as opposed to the loud buzzing of compressors, a higher fan speed masks compressor noise well.
Additional Features
Dehumidifiers usually include the standard auto shutoff feature and indicator light for your convenience. Full-size units offer custom humidity control with a built-in humidistat and digital humidity readout. You set a target humidity level and the dehumidifier will automatically cycle on and off to maintain this level and conserve energy at the same time. Most dehumidifiers also feature an on/off timer, multiple fan speeds, and different operation modes depending on your needs. Auto restart resumes operation to your last settings after a power outage.
How to Use and Maintain a Dehumidifier
Even the best dehumidifiers can only last so long until natural wear and tear takes them. It’s important to observe proper maintenance to get optimum performance and help your dehumidifier last longer.
- Find the best location for your dehumidifier. Make sure that the air isn’t blocked on its way in and out of the unit. If possible, place the unit in a central location to maximize its coverage. It is recommended to maintain about 12 inches distance from walls, furniture, or any obstruction.
- Select the right humidity settings. The ideal indoor humidity range is around 30% to 50%. Most compressor dehumidifiers feature an onboard humidistat to automatically adjust the room humidity to your setting. It’s important that you pick the correct settings for the location and application. Turn off the dehumidifier at night unless absolutely needed. This way there’s less noise and you’re also saving energy.
- Any appliance needs frequent cleaning to maintain proper functioning and prolong its life. A dehumidifier collects dust, lint, and all sorts of impurities in the air. These may accumulate inside the unit and affect operation. To ensure your health and comfort and keep your dehumidifier in excellent condition, clean the unit at least every few weeks. Use a damp cloth with soapy water to wipe the exterior, then vacuum the inside to remove any remaining dirt.
- If you’re using the tank, don’t forget to rinse it every time you empty the water. Disinfect the tank with mild soap or a vinegar solution every week or two. If you’re using a drain hose, still wash the tank in case water gets inside. Flush the same solution into the hose to disinfect it.
- Clean or replace the filter when needed. Dehumidifiers come with at least one filter to catch impurities in the air. Dirt and bacteria may collect in the filter and eventually get in the air. Most filters are easily washable and each dehumidifier has a recommended period in which you need to change out the filters. Check the manufacturer’s instructions on filter cleaning and replacement to be sure.
A 30-pint dehumidifier can be a great investment for different areas in your house. It’s important to get the right size of dehumidifier for your space to maximize the effectiveness and efficiency.
