Vornado Humidifier Reviews

Best Ultrasonic: Vornado Ultra3

Vornado Ultra3 Humidifier

Our first pick among Vornado humidifiers is the Vornado Ultra3. It provides everything you may need in a room humidifier along with bonus features unique in Vornado products. Although it’s one of Vornado’s smallest humidifiers, the Ultra3 is considered a “large” portable humidifier with a one-gallon tank capacity and 600 square feet coverage. Due to the ultrasonic technology used, it is an excellent choice for a large bedroom, office, or living room where you need a quiet yet effective humidifier.

While Vornado is more known for its wide range of evaporative humidifiers, it also offers ultrasonic units, namely the Ultra3 and UH100. The two have the same capacity and coverage, as well as similar controls. The only difference is the tank design and style. Ultra3 is available in a blue and black modern design similar to the Vornado Evap Series, while UH100 features the newer sleek, white design similar to the EV Series. In terms of long-term performance, we found that the Ultra3 has more positive feedback.

This unit has humidity control settings on top to allow you to choose the humidity level you want. You can pick from 40% to 60% RH in 5% increments. The built-in humidistat will monitor humidity in the room and shut off the unit to maintain your set humidity. You also have an option to set the humidifier to run continuously. Also choose from three fan settings: High, Low, and Auto. The LED indicator lights determine the selected settings. Vornado’s unique Vortex Action airflow technology ensures even distribution of moisture throughout the room. At maximum settings, this humidifier can deliver up to two gallons of moisture in 24 hours.

As is the problem with most ultrasonic models, the Ultra3 is prone to white dust buildup inside the machine due to the minerals in hard water. You will need to carefully clean the water tank on a regular basis using a brush and soap and disinfect it with bleach or vinegar. That’s why in terms of tank design and ease of cleaning, the UH100 is preferable. However, if you have distilled water to spare, then the Ultra3 is the better choice for ultrasonic humidifiers. It comes with a five-year warranty to guarantee its high quality.

Pros
• Stylish design
• Good coverage but still lightweight and compact
• Automatic humidistat
• Quiet operation
• 5-year warranty
Cons
• May be difficult to clean
• Bottom-filling tank

Easy to Use: Vornado Evap2

Vornado Evap2 Humidifier

If you don’t mind periodic wick filter replacements and slightly louder operation, then evaporative humidifiers are the way to go. The Vornado Evap2 humidifier is incredibly easy to use and maintain for almost anyone who wishes to add humidity to single rooms. The design is nearly identical to the Ultra3 ultrasonic humidifier, except of course the Evap2 uses natural evaporation to add moisture to the air. It features the modern black and blue design currently only found in the Vornado Ultra3 and the larger Evap3.

The Vornado Evap2 humidifier has a one-gallon tank and a coverage area of 600 square feet. Again this is perfect for a large bedroom or living area. It can run for 12 hours on a single fill, and deliver up to two gallons of moisture in 24 hours, ensuring maximum coverage of your room. The larger Evap3 has a 1.5-gallon water tank and covers up to 700 square feet.

Similar to the Ultra3, this evaporative humidifier has a built-in humidistat and easy to control push-buttons that allow you to choose the humidity level from 40% to 60% RH in 5% increments. It will turn on or off automatically to maintain your set humidity, or you can set the humidifier to run continuously. There are three fan settings to choose from (High, Low, and Auto), and you have the LED indicator lights to determine your selected settings. The Evap2 also features Vornado’s signature Vortex Action airflow technology to promote circulation throughout the room.

Since it has a similar design to the Ultra3, the Evap2 (as well as the Evap3 humidifier) comes with the same problems, namely its tank design. You will need to remove then flip it over to refill or clean the tank. On the bright side, the tank has a large opening, but you will have to hold it carefully when filling it up and replacing it so that it won’t spill water. A few users also note that the unit is a little loud on the High fan setting, but this is actually normal in any evaporative humidifier. Lastly, it’s also backed by Vornado’s five-year warranty.

Pros
• Stylish design
• Good coverage but still lightweight and compact
• Automatic humidistat
• 5-year warranty
Cons
• May be difficult to refill the tank
• Can be loud on High fan setting

Budget Pick: Vornado EV100

Even on a budget, you can still enjoy Vornado’s optimum performance with the EV100 humidifier. It’s along the price range of most similar-sized ultrasonic units and comes with Vornado’s unique features. It has the smallest coverage area at only 300 square feet, but it is still powerful for a bedroom or living room. It’s perfect for small spaces or apartments in dry winters.

Like most Vornado products, this compact humidifier has a lot of features that make it stand above other models. The Vornado EV100 has a simple design that is easy to understand and operate. At 5.3 pounds, it’s extremely easy to carry from room to room so that you can use it whenever you need extra moisture anywhere in the house. Similar to the units above, the button controls are simple to use. You can pick the humidity level from 40% to 60% RH in 5% increments, and choose from three fan settings to customize the operation according to your needs. With a built-in humidistat, it can also be set for continuous humidification.

The EV100 utilizes Vornado’s SimpleTank system. The water tank can hold a total of one gallon of water, which can last up to 24 hours without needing a refill. The tank is transparent so you can easily determine the water level, and it has an integrated handle on top as well as a wide opening to make installation, refills, and clean-ups much easier and spill-free. This tank design is one of the best features of modern Vornado humidifiers. However, it would have been even better if the tank filled from the top instead of needing to flip it over to refill, then flip a gallon-full tank to replace it on the unit.

The EV100 may be small compared to the rest of Vornado humidifiers, yet it works with the same power and efficiency thanks to the Vortex airflow system. It is also very easy to use and maintain, and it also comes with Vornado’s five-year warranty, so you can be sure of its performance and durability. It’s also available in a larger unit EV200 with dual tanks for a total of 1.5 gallon capacity for spaces up to 700 square feet. For small rooms, the EV100 is the best budget choice.

Pros
• Sleek, modern design
• Good coverage for a small unit
• Best for budget
• Automatic humidistat
• 5-year warranty
Cons
• Bottom-filling tank
• Can be loud on High fan setting

Best Coverage: Vornado Evap40

Vornado Evap40 Humidifier

Vornado’s best-selling humidifier is the Evap40 whole room evaporative humidifier. It’s particularly popular for its large coverage and capacity in the simple but functional Vornado design. This evaporative humidifier can cover a maximum of 1,000 square footage. It should be more than enough for the largest rooms in your home like a master bedroom or any open space like a living and dining area. It’s perfectly capable of handling even an entire apartment with an open floor plan.

It has a huge two-gallon water tank on each side, for a total capacity of four gallons which can last the whole 24 hours on maximum settings. Just like the smaller Vornado humidifiers, the Evap40 has a built-in humidistat to control the moisture output and maintain the humidity level you set. Turn the control knob accordingly to adjust the humidity. On max setting, the unit will run continuously. There are three fan settings to choose from: Hi, Med, and Low. and you have the LED indicator lights to determine your selected settings.

The Evap40 also features the Vornado Vortex Action airflow to promote balanced humidification throughout the area. Its deep-pitched blades are able to pull large volumes of dry air through the filters, ensuring maximum coverage and performance. Because it’s an evaporative humidifier, it will generate some noise, especially considering its size. The bulk of the unit is mainly in the large water jugs on its sides. Although they’re big, they’re easy to remove and have handles for easy refilling.

Like any evaporative humidifier, expect to do some routine maintenance to keep your Evap40 unit clean and functioning properly. Check the condition of the wick filters every refill or at least once a week (or more often if you have hard water). Vornado offers some good-looking designs, but the Evap40 isn’t one of them. It’s huge and clunky and may not be best to leave on display. All things considered, it’s the best humidifier for large open areas in your home or office. The Evap40 is made in the USA and comes with Vornado’s five-year warranty. Unlike other models, the Evap40 doesn’t have a smaller or larger variation.

Pros
• Large capacity and coverage
• Simple and easy to use controls
• Built-in humidistat
• Low maintenance
Cons
• Switch knobs offer less precise control
• Only good for large rooms

Energy Smart Humidifier: Vornado EVDC500

Vornado EVDC500 Humidifier

Yet another evaporative humidifier from Vornado on our list is the EVDC500 Energy Smart whole room model. This dual-tank evaporative humidifier is powered by Vornado’s Energy Smart DC motor that uses about 90% less energy compared to a similar Vornado AC motor-driven humidifier. Side by side with the Evap40, the EVDC500 has a more modern, stylish design. This energy efficient humidifier has a total tank capacity of two gallons and a 1,000 square feet coverage area. If you need something smaller, it’s also available in a one-gallon unit for 750 square feet, the EVDC300.

The EVDC500 has an LED display and simple control buttons for customized operation. It has a built-in humidistat that maintains your set humidity level from 40% to 60% RH. You can also choose from three fan settings: turbo (HH), high (HI), or low (LO). When plugged in and turned on, the unit will be set at low speed and 50% humidity by default. With the DC motor-enabled Energy Smart mode, humidification is controlled automatically using as little as 1 Watt to adjust the speed as efficiently as possible. This smart humidifier also adjusts the display brightness automatically or turns it off completely.

The EVDC Series features Vornado’s SimpleTank design. The EVDC500 has two one-gallon tanks which can last 12 hours. At maximum settings, this humidifier can deliver up to four gallons of moisture in one day. While it has the same daily output as the Evap40, the smaller tanks mean more frequent refills, but only if it’s running continuously. In any case, the tank design makes it easier to fill up, replace, and clean. Another smart feature of the EVDC is the water-level sensor that tells the unit to run at low speed for four hours when the water level is low. To make sure your unit always operates in tip-top condition, wash the tanks regularly and clean or replace the wick filters as needed.

Although this humidifier is as efficient and quiet as it can be for its size, evaporative models are bound to make some noise. Overall, the EVDC500 ensures comfort and ease of use with a bonus 5-year satisfaction guarantee and a 10-year motor warranty.

Pros
• Large capacity and coverage
• Very energy efficient
• Easy to use with adjustable settings
• SimpleTank design is easy to refill and clean
• 10-year motor warranty
Cons
• Filter needs to be changed at least once a month

Best for Baby: VornadoBaby Huey

VornadoBaby Huey Humidifier

Although Vornado’s large humidifiers are popular, they may not be ideal for all rooms in your home, particularly in a baby nursery. The Vornadobaby Huey is a lightweight and compact evaporative humidifier that is designed for babies. It has a 32-ounce water bottle that can last 12 to 16 hours of runtime, so you can leave the unit running while your baby sleeps.

The most common baby humidifiers use ultrasonic technology to produce a fine mist with minimal noise, but this type of humidifier may also leave white dust particles in the air or around the unit. The Vornadobaby Huey uses natural evaporation through wick filters that catch impurities in the water before adding moisture to the air.

Like any Vornado humidifier, it has automatic controls with adjustable humidity and fan settings. You can lock the control buttons to prevent older kids from accidentally changing your selected settings. This portable humidifier comes with a ring handle so you can easily carry it from room to room or even carry it with one hand while holding your baby at the same time. The water bottle simply drops into the unit, allowing for easy refill and installation. When the water runs low, the tank begins to glow and the unit will alert you before it shuts off. In case of accidental bumps, it has splash guards built in to prevent spills.

The Huey also features backlit controls you can adjust for your convenience. Lastly, it has a removable grill for easy disassembly and cleaning. Overall, this is a great choice for baby humidifiers, but take note that the capacity is a lot smaller than any other Vornado unit, with a coverage of only 180 square feet.

Pros
• Compact and lightweight option
• Safe for nurseries
• Automatic humidity control
• Removable grill for cleaning
Cons
• Smaller tank capacity than similar models

Best Steam Humidifier: Vornado Element SA

Vornado Element SA Humidifier

Vornado also offers a third type of humidifier: this one uses steam to add cool or warm mist to the room. The Vornado Element SA steam humidifier provides three mist options: hot, warm, and cool. You can get a lot of benefits year-round with this one device. It comes with Vornado’s smart features with a few additional functions built into this steam humidifier.

The Vornado Element SA covers up to 1,000 square feet with a 0.75-gallon tank you can easily refill for a total of four gallons of mist output in 24 hours. The digital display and steam color indicator light provide information on your selected settings. It features Vornado’s signature Vortex Action airflow for maximum coverage, and the SimpleTank design for easy installation, refill and cleaning.

To ensure your safety, the heating element is covered in the double-insulated silicone chamber and only boils four ounces of water at a time. This means the water in the tank is stored at room temperature to avoid any accidents. The unit will notify you when water is running low and automatically shut off.

To top it all off, this steam humidifier also allows you to add essential oils for aromatherapy, although the oils are not included with your purchase. Furthermore, this humidifier doesn’t have any filters, so that’s one less worry for you. Although, like most warm mist humidifiers, it can be very loud.

Pros
• Three mist temperature options
• Automatic humidity control
• Can be used with essential oils
• Large coverage area
• Very easy to refill and clean
Cons
• Lights and display may be too bright
• Can be loud during warm mist operation

About the Vornado Brand

Vornado started from an airplane design in the early 1920s. By the 1930s, the Power Vortex design was first applied in the Vornado plane, derived from the words vortex and tornado. This design then evolved into what became the first Vornadofan in 1945.

Over the remaining part of the century, the Vornado company continued to develop and add more products to their line. This includes humidifiers, air purifiers, and heaters, all designed to provide comfort in your home all year round.

Vornado offers unique, reliable products, as well as excellent customer service. To gain your confidence, Vornado even offers a satisfaction guarantee of five years on most products. If at some point in the following five years after your purchase the product (or a part of it) malfunctions, you can return the unit or ask for a replacement given a few conditions. You can learn more about this on the product’s manual or the Vornado website.

Types of Vornado Humidifiers

Vornado humidifiers come in a variety of sizes with easy-to-use controls that allow you to operate the unit as needed. They use different processes to effectively maintain optimal humidity levels in your home. Although, if you’re looking for a warm mist humidifier, you will not find a lot of options here.

Vornado Ultrasonic Humidifiers

An ultrasonic humidifier uses a metal diaphragm vibrating at a high frequency, sending tiny water particles into the air. This type produces a visible mist, providing more moisture than an evaporative humidifier. Built without a fan, an ultrasonic model is best used at night because of its nearly soundless operation. Because ultrasonic humidifiers operate very quietly, they are ideal in smaller spaces like bedrooms, nurseries, or even in living or family rooms. In addition, you won’t need to replace a wick or filter in an ultrasonic humidifier, saving on maintenance costs. Vornado’s ultrasonic units include the Ultra3 and UH100.

Vornado Evaporative Humidifiers

An evaporative humidifier uses a wick or filter to absorb water from the reservoir. A fan then blows air through the wet filter, letting the moisture evaporate. This type of humidifier regulates itself, preventing excess humidity. The wick will only absorb a certain amount of water, depending on the ambient moisture in the room, and as humidity levels increase, it becomes more difficult to evaporate water. They also filter impurities from the water, that could otherwise leave deposits or residue on surfaces around the unit. See this complete list of Vornado Evaporative Humidifiers

Vornado Steam Humidifiers

A steam humidifier or vaporizer emits warm mist. It has an internal heater that boils water before releasing steam into the air. Because steam automatically rises and disperses, a fan usually isn’t required, though Vornado uses one through the Vortex Action to help circulate the humidified air more evenly. Steam humidifiers can reduce bacterial contamination and dust accumulation, as well as provide warmth and comfort during cold months. Although, there is an added risk of burns.

How Does Vornado Compare to the Competition?

There is a reason Vornado is among the best of the best choices for humidifiers for every need. The company is a leader in innovative features that help maximize humidification and save energy at the same time.

Vortex Action Technology

How Vortex Action Technology Work

Vornado’s unique Vortex Action technology enables the airflow to be distributed evenly across the room. The fan in a Vornado humidifier moves at a continuous speed so the air moves like a tornado. This ensures that the airflow throughout the room is consistent.

On the other hand, most other brands use oscillation technology which only provides momentary airflow in a certain direction at a certain time. Vortex Action works better since it can maintain the same humidity throughout the entire room.

Energy Smart

Some of the most recent humidifier models from Vornado are designed to save energy and money. Greater energy efficiency means your device uses less natural resources and helps reduce wastes in the environment. Furthermore, using less energy also means less operating costs. The Vornado Energy Smart humidifiers provide up to 90% of energy savings compared to a similar model. This way you reduce your monthly bills and help save the environment, all without compromising the effectiveness of your humidifier.

How to Use and Maintain a Vornado Humidifier

To use any appliance, you need to set it up properly. Your new Vornado humidifier will come with a user manual that will show you the proper way to set up and use the system.

First, consider where you will place the unit. You want it at least a few feet away from where you sleep, sit, or work, so the mist output isn’t blown directly on you. Humidifier noise can also get loud and annoying for some. An ideal location is on top of a table or desk on the other side of the room. Larger units like the Evap40 can also work perfectly on the ground.

Once your humidifier is set up and plugged in, turn it on and choose the right settings. Vornado features simple controls that make this task a piece of cake. Maintain humidity levels between 40% and 60% and adjust the fan speed according to your preference.

All humidifiers need water to work, so make sure to refill the reservoir at the right time to keep dry air at bay. Before each refill, empty the tank completely and check the wick filter if your unit has one. At least once every week, give the tank a thorough cleanse with warm soapy water or a solution of vinegar or bleach. Filter life mainly depends on the size of the unit, the water condition, and frequency of usage. Refer to your manual for more specific information.
