We recommend this product because it is efficient and reliable; it can absorb 65 pints of moisture per day and can be connected for continuous drainage, thus being fit for unsupervised functioning.
If you’re a regular on our website, you know by now that Sunpentown is one of the most reputed brands in dehumidifier making; several of their products are rated as some of the best on the market, and one of them was even reviewed here. As such, we thought it was the time we introduced a new product, which promises the same qualities and reliability, but which caters to different needs, and that may be just what you were looking for. If you are determined to purchase one, you are probably aware of the multiple benefits it can bring, the most important of which is the protection of your health. As such, it can even function for disease protection against airborne viruses, even if we’re talking about the seasonal cold or flu.
Most dehumidifiers have a rather disappointing design, and unfortunately, this one is no exception; although its functionality far surpasses the importance of an aesthetic design, you can’t but feel a little disappointed that they haven’t come up with more solutions by now, such as adding a bit of color to those common white carcasses, for instance. Most dehumidifiers of this kind have a similar, upright, freestanding position, covered with a bulky white carcass and some holes for the fans and filters to work through. Of course, with a bit of research, you should be able to find some designer models that blend better with normal interior decor and colors, but those aren’t so bright when it comes to functionality, and will cost a pretty penny. Now that we’ve cleared that off, the item doesn’t look so bad, does it? In fact, it is quite appealing. The bottom part of the front side comes with a very capacious container that features a small transparent window that allows you to see when it gets full. The simple and efficient control panel is located on top for easy reach and a more efficient industrial design result.
As its name suggests, the Sunpentown SD-65E has the capacity of absorbing an astounding 65 pints of moisture per day; it has been specifically designed to solve humidity problems in very large areas, which is why it is efficient in spaces of up to 500 square feet. The control panel features a small LED digital display that informs you of the current humidity levels in the room; two Plus and Minus buttons allow you to select the levels of humidity you want to obtain in the room; this is done in increments of 5% between the values of 35% and 80%. This means it is not perfectly accurate, but it should be sufficient for most general needs; moreover, it has a minimal limit, so you don’t risk over-drying the atmosphere and reaching the opposite extreme. A Fan button allows you to select between two fan settings (Normal and Turbo), depending on how much humidity you need to eliminate, or on how fast you need it to perform its duty. The control panel also features a defrost option that is activated automatically when the room temperature becomes too low, and a full bucket indicator with LED lights that notifies you when the container is filled to capacity.
It also has a memory function, which means it will retain its last settings whether it is restarted by a power outing, or simply turned off by you. As for its size, it measures 18 inches in width, 15 inches in depth, and 26 inches in height. It weighs a bit too much at its 45 pounds, but it is fitted on resistant caster wheels that allow you to push or drag it around in any direction.
This is definitely an energy efficient, Energy Star rated product; it consumes the least amount of energy for a maximum of potential. Its two fan speed settings allow you to set it according to specific needs and conditions, so it doesn’t have to consume the same every time; after it brings down home humidity to more regular levels, you will rarely have to use it on Turbo mode, which is also noisier.
Overall, this item is quite easy to use; in all respects, it functions just like any other dehumidifier. The control panel allows you to set it to the limits you prefer, you can adjust humidity levels with a fair degree of accuracy, and you have a bucket full indicator that eliminates spillage risks. What makes it a little less convenient is the noise output, which ranges between 56 and 59 decibels depending on fan speed. However, its price is quite reasonable in comparison to its performance and to other similar products; thus, you should be able to purchase it for about $250 – $300 depending on your location and the retailer. The manufacturer also offers a one-year warranty that covers manufacturer defects and other damages.
