GOOD

The Royal Sovereign 55 Pint Bucket Free is suitable for cramped and narrow areas. We like that you don't have to empty the bucket; the condensate water goes down a drain. However, the pump can cause some inconveniences.

The air we breathe in our home is as important as the food we eat; our health depends on it. If the relative humidity in the air is too high, the condensation will invade walls and windows. As a result, mold will appear and can cause many health concerns, such as asthma. To prevent these issues, it is important to take additional measures, such as purchasing a dehumidifier. The Royal Sovereign 55 Pint bucket-free, which costs $605.32, comes with all the basic features you need to get rid of the high level of moisture in the air. Let’s see what this device can do for your home and your health.

Design

The dehumidifier must be chosen in relation to the size of the area and the volume of air to clean because it is useless to take a big unit, specially designed for the basement area, and place it in a narrow and tight place. The one we have reviewed has the following dimensions: 17.8 x 18.3 x 24.2 inches. It’s advisable to place it in a crawlspace area, such as the basement. The device features a black and silver design, perfect for a modern, sophisticated home. This bucketless model can remove up to 55 pints of moisture, allergens, mold and so on per day. The moisture if pumped out a window or into a drain. According to several customers reviews, the pump function is not so well designed. Many customers have complained about the quality of the pump and said that the condensate water wasn’t pumped properly.

Features

The humidistat thermostat plays an important role in the dehumidifying process. It will continuously measure the moisture in the air and triggers when it exceeds a threshold that you selected. Once moisture settles under the threshold, the hygrostat stops the device. The auto-humidistat is ranged from 35% to 80% and it operates according to the principle of condensation. It absorbs ambient air, cools the moisture and then heats it before returning it to your room. There is also a 24-hour timer included which can be set on/off. Moreover, the removable air filter improves the quality of air in the room. The 3-speed fan function is designed for custom humidification. Last but not least, the sound function of the device is relatively silent (52 dB).

Energy Efficiency

When it comes to buying a new dehumidifier, most of us are thinking about making a lifetime investment; therefore its energy efficiency is a very important aspect here. The selected model has a power consumption of 115 V / 60 Hz; 750W and if you choose to leave it 24/7, it can reach a power consumption level of 110 V – 160 KWh. This means an extra $20 to your monthly costs. It’s not such a bad investment, considering the fact that you get rid of mold and excess humidity. Additionally, as many customers have reported, it can even heat up your room, 5 degrees more than before.

Other considerations

In terms of warranty, you will receive a warranty for 1-year parts and labor and 5-year compressor. Although this product is far from being affordable, you should know that you can purchase one already used at $200. Therefore, you will manage to save up some money. There are some things that need to be mentioned here: some customers have complained about the pump function not working properly. It’s advisable to double check that the hose doesn’t have something in it that may cause a blocking. Otherwise, this will cause it to stop. Also, there have been some complaints regarding the amount of defrosting that is going on. If the temperature is over 60 degrees in your area, it will keep on defrosting; this lowers its efficiency.

I’ve heard that the thermostat is very efficient and it even limits the energy consumption of the dehumidifier. Does this unit have a thermostat?

Hi, Andrew. The Royal Sovereign includes a humidistat thermostat that monitors air humidity and adjusts the operating of the unit according to the requirements of the room it’s placed in.

I have it and I can say that it works fine for me, although the energy consumption is higher than $20 per month. However, it’s a good thing that it turns off when it has removed the selected air moisture, thus reducing its operating costs. All in all, a good choice but not the best.

I was about to say the same thing. For what it costs and how much energy it draws, not a great deal.
