Quest Dehumidifiers

Quest 70 Overhead Dehumidifier

While Quest dehumidifiers are typically used in indoor growing facilities and similar commercial spaces with high humidity environments, they also come in more compact sizes with the same functionality for your different needs. If you’re looking for a heavy-duty dehumidifier for the crawl space or basement in your home, then the Quest 70 has got you covered. This compact dehumidifier is designed for convenient installation in tight spaces with severe humidity problems. The crawl space is especially vulnerable to humidity and its harmful effects, including mold spores and pests that can quickly spread to the upper levels of your house.

The Quest dehumidifier can effectively remove up to 70 pints of moisture per day, under AHAM conditions (80°F and 60% humidity). It is Energy Star rated with an energy factor of 5 pints or 2.37L/kWh. You can also use it in small commercial spaces such as grow rooms and warehouses. Unlike other similar models, this energy-efficient dehumidifier functions in a wide range of temperatures, from as low as 33°F to as high as 110°F. Although, this model does not have the Automatic Defrost feature, which means you will need to turn it off manually when temperatures drop below 33°F to avoid frost buildup.

This Quest dehumidifier features an onboard humidistat with a control knob so you can adjust the humidity from three levels: Dry at 20-30% RH, Normal at 50% RH, and Humid at 80-90% RH. The unit comes with a drain hose for continuous drainage via gravity. Although a built-in condensate pump, would have been more convenient, you have to option to add an external pump, as well as ducting and hanging equipment for installation overhead or on the ground. You can also use it with the Quest digital controller DEH3000R.

Quest Hi-E Dry 195

Quest industrial dehumidifiers come in a variety of designs and functions suitable for high-humidity areas. The Quest Hi-E Dry Series has a freestanding vertical design perfect for commercial spaces such as large warehouses, spas, and indoor swimming pools. Like the Quest 70 above, the Hi-E Dry 195 is ideal for a wide range of temperatures, from 33°F and 110°F. This unit removes up to 195 pints of moisture per day under AHAM conditions.

The Hi-E Dry 195  is also energy efficient with a rated energy factor of 5.9 pints/kWh or 2.8 L/kWh. It has four built-in wheels and a compact footprint that allow for flexibility in installation. You also have the option to duct this dehumidifier to dehumidify multiple rooms or duct it to supply fresh air from outside into the building. You can set the humidistat from 20% to 80% and the unit will start dehumidifying and maintain your set humidity level automatically.

The updated Quest Hi-E Dry 195 comes with a more efficient MERV 11 filter (as opposed to the MERV 8 filter before) and a stronger airflow at a maximum of 610 CFM. What’s more, is it features a built-in condensate pump to push out the collected moisture to a suitable location vertically or horizontally. The included 20-foot hose can move water up to 17 feet above the unit This model comes with a one-year warranty on all parts and five years on the sealed system. The power cord is long enough to move the unit across large rooms. When installing, it’s also important to note the type of plug required. This high-capacity dehumidifier works on 110-voltage, effectively reducing utility costs.

Quest Dual 165 Overhead Dehumidifier

The Quest Dual Series is a best-seller among professional growers for its high efficiency and convenient overhead installation perfect for growing rooms, greenhouses, indoor pools, and spa rooms. Ceiling mounted installation is recommended due to the large physical size of the unit, but you may also use it on the ground if there is enough floor space. The Quest 165 dehumidifier removes up to 165 pints of water per day under AHAM conditions. Like most Quest dehumidifiers, although this unit is not Energy Star rated, it is energy-efficient with an energy factor of 3.2L/kWh so you can save money in the long run.

It also has an automatic humidistat built-in with external controls that allow you to choose the humidity levels. The unit cycles on and off automatically to maintain this setting. The condensate is drained by gravity through the included drain hose. Make sure to provide a 2.5-inch clearance between the unit and the drain pan underneath. For more convenience, Quest offers an optional condensate pump kit.

The Quest Dual Series is designed to operate from 56°F to 95°F, equipped with an auto-defrost function. If it senses frost on the coils, it automatically defrosts. Supply and return ducting options are also available to distribute dryer air to other rooms. Be reminded to choose the right size of dehumidifier for your space, you may choose the capacity of your Quest Dual 105 up to 225 pints. Included with the unit is a one-year warranty on parts and labor and five years on the refrigerant system. Note that this unit runs on a 220-voltage.

Dehumidifier Features

When choosing your Quest industrial dehumidifier, there are several important features you must first consider to find the right unit for your needs.

Moisture Removal Capacity

This is the total amount of moisture the dehumidifier removes in one day. This is essential in determining the area and humidity levels the unit can efficiently handle. For commercial applications, dehumidifier capacities can be defined in two ways.

The AHAM capacity is measured at the average condition of 80°F and 60% RH, as recommended by the Association of Home Appliance Manufacturers. This is a more realistic representation of the actual performance of the dehumidifier in real-life settings. Meanwhile, some manufacturers indicate the maximum capacity, which is the largest amount that the dehumidifier removes from the air at saturation (90°F and 90% RH). Quest provides the AHAM capacity of dehumidifiers, measured in pints per day or PPD.

Build Quality

Commercial dehumidifiers are mostly built with steel or heavy-duty plastic, as is the case with the Quest high-performance dehumidifiers. This makes them more durable and suitable for harsh environmental conditions in the indoor growing industry as well as other commercial applications. When choosing your dehumidifier, also take note of the product’s warranty information. A longer warranty period typically means the manufacturer has more confidence in the quality and durability of the product. Quest products come with up to five years warranty for your peace of mind.

Draining Options

Quest dehumidifiers give you the option for continuous drainage using gravity. Just attach the included drain hose to the outlet port and make sure that the hose is directed downward and that the other end is level with the drain to prevent leaks. The Quest portable dehumidifiers including the Hi-E Dry 195 also come with a built-in condensate pump for worry-free automatic draining at greater distances or above the unit up to a certain height. This feature is especially useful for spaces without a low-level drain.

Alternatives to Quest

If for some reason, the Quest dehumidifiers do not meet your requirements, then you can choose from these alternatives with similar functions.

Ebac CD30-SE

The Ebac CD30-SE dehumidifier is a portable yet heavy-duty dehumidifier built for harsh environments such as small indoor pools or spas. It removes up to 24 pints of moisture under AHAM conditions (80°F and 60% RH) and covers up to 400 square feet. It is light and compact for greater flexibility to move and transport it from site to site or permanently install it mounted on the wall.

Dri-Eaz

Dri-Eaz manufactures industrial dehumidifiers popular in the restoration industry for their high performance and rugged portability. Dri-Eaz dehumidifiers are built with durable roto-molded housing to withstand the toughest conditions in different job sites. Portable models also come with large wheels and rigid handles for storage and transport. A few are also Energy Star rated for higher energy efficiency.

Except for the desiccant model, all Dri-Eaz dehumidifiers come equipped with an internal condensate pump with an included drain hose for automatic drainage. High CFM ratings guarantee faster drying and restoration of water-damaged spaces or newly constructed buildings. Dri-Eaz products are backed with a five-year warranty.

Phoenix industrial dehumidifiers

Phoenix industrial dehumidifiers are also manufactured in Madison, Wisconsin under the ThermaStor brand. They specialize in LGR (low-grain refrigerant) dehumidifiers built for quick and efficient moisture removal in lower temperatures (down to 33°F).

Their high-capacity units are built with stainless steel housing and most of them come with a built-in condensate pump and drain hose. Phoenix also offers desiccant units (D385 and D850) which operate in temperatures from -10°F to 140°F for high-efficiency dehumidification. The largest desiccant unit can remove up to 370 pints of moisture in a day. Phoenix also offers up to five years of warranty.

Customer Feedback

There are only a handful of reviews for each Quest dehumidifier model on Sylvane, but they have hardly any negative feedback from customers. Out of a hundred user reviews that we found online, we can say that Quest industrial dehumidifiers perform as desired. These high-capacity and high-efficiency dehumidifiers are effective in removing excess moisture and reducing humidity to optimal levels within a matter of hours. Although, remember that actual performance will depend on the current condition of your space.

Overall, Quest is a reliable brand for excess humidity solutions in commercial or industrial spaces such as gardening or growing facilities, indoor pools, warehouses, or spas. You can also use it to remove moisture in the crawl space or basement in your home. Most dehumidifiers can be installed on the ground or overhead to save space, while there are also portable units with wheels for easy transport. Whatever you choose, make sure to find the right capacity for your space for optimum performance of your dehumidifier.
