Ivation Dehumidifier Reviews

Ivation 50-pint Dehumidifier with Pump

Ivation IVAESDH50P Quietest Dehumidifier

This unit is one of the best-selling Ivation dehumidifiers currently available in the market. It is rated to remove up to 50 pints of moisture per day from an area of 4,500 square feet. Like most Ivation dehumidifiers, it is Energy Star certified for maximum energy efficiency.

This unit has an adjustable humidistat with digital display and control buttons on the top control panel. Select your target humidity from 30% to 90% and the dehumidifier will work to maintain this level. You can also set the timer to enable auto start or stop after 0.5 to 24 hours. You’ll also find the fan speed button with lights to indicate whether the unit is in Low or High speed.

What I particularly like about this model is the temperature sensor and display. Not a lot of dehumidifiers have them today. You also have the option to view the temperature in degrees Fahrenheit or Celsius. This is where the timer is shown during setting. The control panel doesn’t have any text labels for the buttons and indicator lights. However, the icons are easy enough to understand.

Ivation IVAESDH50P Dehumidifier Control Panel

This 50-pint dehumidifier features a large 2.25-gallon tank with a water level window. When the tank is full, the unit will shut off automatically and the Full Tank indicator will light up until you remove and empty the tank. Alternatively, this model comes with a built-in pump you can use to divert the water upwards into a sink or basement window if you don’t have a floor drain nearby.

The unit operates efficiently between 41°F and 100°F with an auto defrost mode to protect the coils from ice buildup. When operating in defrost mode, the Defrost indicator light will illuminate, and the compressor will stop while the fan continues to run for a few minutes to melt ice. The unit also comes with a washable filter you can access by removing the tank and pulling down from behind the front intake grille.

One common issue with Ivation dehumidifiers is the noise output. This 50-pint unit in particular, can be louder than most other 50-pint dehumidifiers. Although, this won’t be a big deal if you operate in a secluded area like the basement.

Pros

  • Energy Star certified
  • High moisture removal rate
  • Custom humidity control
  • Large water tank
  • Built-in pump
  • Temperature display

Cons

  • Average quality and durability
  • Loud operation

Ivation 22-pint Dehumidifier

Ivation 22-Pint Dehumidifier

One of the smallest compressor dehumidifiers by Ivation is this 22-pint unit (previously 30-pint). It can cover small rooms up to 1,500 square feet. Compared to the 50-pint model above, this dehumidifier features very basic functions in a small and light package. It also has an Energy Star certification for greater savings, and operates down to 41°F with auto defrost mode and indicator light.

The unit maintains your desired humidity level through the onboard humidistat. Beside the power switch, the control panel includes a digital humidity display and four buttons.

The Timer allows you to program the unit to turn on or off automatically after 0.5 to 24 hours and save energy. The Turbo button increases fan speed for maximum moisture removal. The “CONT.” button enables continuous operation to let the dehumidifier work until it’s turned off or the tank is full. When the Filter alert is on, it’s time to remove and clean the filter. Simply pull down the filter from behind the front grille and wash with soapy water. After reinstalling, press the Filter button to reset.

Ivation 22-pint Dehumidifier Control Panel

This 22-pint dehumidifier comes with a 0.8-gallon water tank complete with a full tank alert system and auto shutoff to prevent overflow. In high humidity areas, you may have to empty the tank up to four times every 24 hours. If this is too inconvenient for you, Ivation has an optional continuous drainage. Just attach a standard garden hose (not included with your purchase) to the drain outlet on the back of the unit.

In terms of quality of the top display and the construction of the unit itself, this Ivation is a budget dehumidifier with the most basic features.

What I don’t like personally is when manufacturers advertise dehumidifiers with the old pint ratings to mislead users into believing it has a higher capacity than it actually has. This is the case for most compressor dehumidifiers from Ivation. Another common complaint about almost any Ivation dehumidifier is the loud operation. This can be annoying if you want to dehumidify your living or sleeping areas.

Pros

  • Energy Star certified
  • Small and light
  • Custom humidity control
  • Continuous draining option

Cons

  • Poor quality display
  • Loud operation

Ivation IVADM10 Thermo-Electric Dehumidifier

Ivation IVADM10 Thermo-Electric Dehumidifier

For tiny spaces with less severe moisture issues, you need a small and compact dehumidifier like this Ivation unit. It is ideal for any space within 1,100 cubic feet. This portable dehumidifier is the smallest by Ivation with a daily moisture removal rate of 8.5 ounces (250 ml) and a water tank capacity of 17 ounces (500 ml). This means you only have to empty it at most every two days.

This Ivation dehumidifier uses the Peltier effect or thermo-electric cooling for a whisper-quiet operation at a very low cost. This unit is incredibly easy to operate with just one button for the power switch. It is also equipped with the auto shut-off feature for when the water tank is almost full, along with an LED indicator light that alerts you when this happens.

Emptying the tank is also made hassle-free by the simple design. Slide the tank along the front of the dehumidifier, pull the plug out, then drain the water into the sink or drain. This small dehumidifier also features the standard auto shutoff to prevent water overflow, and an LED indicator light to alert you when the tank becomes full. The simple design comes with a single button for the on/off switch on the top. The unit is easy to use and even easier to maintain. To drain, simply slide out the water tank from the front of the unit, pull the plug, and pour the water into your sink or drain. For optimum performance, rinse the tank before replacing it into the dehumidifier.

Running on 22 Watts, this dehumidifier consumes around 0.52kW after 24 hours of use. Similar to any Peltier dehumidifier, this unit works best at temperatures between 59°F and 104°F. It will not operate at 41°F and below. Though it’s not built for heavy, long-time use, it’s perfect for small areas such as a bedroom, bathroom, or even a boat or RV.

Pros

  • Small, lightweight, and portable
  • Low energy consumption
  • Whisper quiet operation
  • User-friendly controls

Cons

  • Small capacity and coverage
  • Temperature restrictions

Ivation IVADM45 Thermo-Electric Dehumidifier with Auto Humidistat

Ivation IVADM45 Dehumidifier with Auto Humidistat

If you need something bigger than the IVADM10 but don’t want to go full-size due to the cost or for any other reason, then the Ivation IVADM45 may be a good option. However, keep in mind that it’s not as effective and covers a much smaller area than a compressor dehumidifier. This unit uses the same Peltier technology, only with a higher capacity of 25 ounces (730 ml) per day, and a bigger tank that can hold up to 68 ounces (2000 ml) of water or about two to five days worth of moisture removed from the air.

Most Peltier dehumidifiers feature no other controls except a single button to turn the unit on or off. On the IVADM45, this can be found on the back of the unit. Just below this are the air intake vents, then the water tank. You’ll find the power on and full tank indicator lights on the front. The auto shutoff prevents overflow when the tank is full.

What’s special about this unit is the adjustable humidistat. Other dehumidifiers will continue dehumidifying until you turn them off manually. This wastes energy and gives you inconsistent humidity levels. With the IVADM45, you can set the humidity level from 40% to 80%. The dehumidifier will stop when the humidity is 5% below your setting and start again when humidity rises 5% above your setting.

It’s ideal for small spaces up to 100 square feet, like a bathroom, laundry room, or even a boat or RV. Because of its whisper-quiet operation, it also works well in a bedroom. Drawing only 60 Watts, this dehumidifier consumes around 0.72kW after 12 hours of continuous use. Like other Peltier dehumidifiers, this unit works best at temperatures from 59°F and 104°F and it’s not built for heavy use.

Pros

  • Small, lightweight, and portable
  • Low energy consumption
  • Whisper quiet operation
  • User-friendly controls

Cons

  • Small capacity and coverage
  • Temperature restrictions

Ivation 13-pint Desiccant Dehumidifier

Ivation 13-Pint Small-Area Desiccant Dehumidifier

Ivation also offers desiccant dehumidifiers for efficient dehumidification in a wider range of temperatures. Unlike the compressor types, this desiccant dehumidifier removes 13 pints of moisture in temperatures as low as 33°F and as high as 104°F. It is ideal for any space up to 270 square feet.

This portable dehumidifier has an LCD display with touch buttons for easy control. You can adjust the humidity level from 35% to 85% in increments of 5%, and the dehumidifier will cycle on and off to maintain the set humidity and conserve energy. Alternatively, you can run the unit continuously below 35%. This model also features Sleep mode with low fan speed and dim screen. The timer lets you schedule operation duration and shut off between 1 and 12 hours.

While this is a versatile dehumidifier, the built-in safety features make it perfect for RVs and boats. The auto stop function prevents damage by automatically shutting off the unit during threat of tilt or water overflow. Auto restart resumes operation in your last settings in case of a power interruption. The display also shows the temperature which you can view in Fahrenheit or Celsius.

Additionally, if you need to dry laundry indoors, you can change the fan speed and adjust the air vents to speed up drying. The unit also comes with a washable air filter and a 3.8-pint tank with a transparent water level indicator and handle. For continuous drainage, attach the included drain hose to the outlet port.

If you need a versatile and efficient dehumidifier you can easily bring anywhere, you can’t go wrong with the Ivation 13-pint desiccant. Just one drawback is it draws more power than a compressor unit of the same capacity. Although, this won’t be a big deal if you only need to run it for a few hours a day.

Pros

  • Quiet desiccant operation
  • Custom humidity control
  • Works in a wide range of temperatures
  • Small and portable

Cons

  • Small capacity and coverage
  • High consumption

Final Say on Ivation Dehumidifiers

Ivation offers a wide variety of dehumidifiers and it’s difficult to make a judgment based on one or two models. Each of my five picks above is ideal for a different application.

For compressor dehumidifiers, there are much better choices than Ivation. Although, the 50-pint unit with pump has some features I personally like. However, note that most built-in pumps don’t last very long for most brands. If you really want the pump functionality, it would be better to get an external pump and a more reliable dehumidifier like the Frigidaire or hOmeLabs.

In the case of Peltier dehumidifiers, almost any brand has similar features and appearance. They are more or less of the same quality. What’s unique about Ivation is the humidistat on the IVADM45 and IVADM20 models. For almost the same price as the closest competitors, this is definitely a plus for Ivation.
The Ivation 13-pint is my favorite desiccant dehumidifier, and probably among all Ivation dehumidifiers. It’s versatile and portable yet powerful enough for most applications in a small space. Only one disadvantage is the cost. If you need something bigger and don’t mind the price, there’s a 19-pint version with similar functionality.
