Eva-Dry E-333 Wireless Mini Dehumidifier

The Eva-Dry E-333 Dehumidifier is probably the best-selling wireless mini dehumidifier in the market. If you’re not familiar with desiccant dehumidifiers, they typically use silica gel beads to adsorb moisture from the air. This is the same substance you see in packets inside shoe boxes with a label DO NOT EAT.

Eva-Dry E-333 RV Dehumidifier

Through the indicator window you can see the silica gel beads change color from orange to green once they have absorbed about 4 to 6 ounces of moisture. This usually happens within 20 to 30 days. To recharge, just plug the unit into a power outlet to dry out the moisture. This very easy process can take about eight to ten hours.

This Eva-Dry unit is completely safe and environment-friendly. It doesn’t require batteries or electricity in order to operate. It contains non-toxic beads, is 100% leak-free, and pet safe. The beads can last up to ten years and the unit comes with a five-year warranty.

As the name suggests, the E-333 dehumidifier can cover an area of up to 333 cubic feet. Keep in mind that this type of dehumidifier does not reduce humidity levels significantly. Their main purpose is to keep moisture out in tight spaces.
The Eva-Dry E-333 is extremely light and portable, weighing around 14 ounces or barely a pound. It can fit in closets, safes, cabinets, and even gym bags. You can also use this little dehumidifier in small rooms with moisture issues, such as the kitchen, bathroom, and bedroom, or in the car and boat cabins. It is also available in twin packs and a bigger capacity unit.

Pros

  • Light and compact
  • Cordless
  • No batteries required
  • Renewable and eco-friendly

Cons

  • Small capacity
  • Recharging process can cause a fire hazard

EDV-1100 Petite Dehumidifier

Although a compressor-based model is considered the “normal” dehumidifier, not all spaces even need one. For small rooms, basements, and even campers or boats, it is more ideal to use a cheaper and more compact dehumidifier like the EDV-1100.

Eva-Dry EDV-1100 RV Dehumidifier

This small but powerful device has a maximum moisture removal of 8 ounces (220 ml) per day. It can hold up to 16 ounces (450 ml) in its tank. This means you will need to empty it at least every two days.

This Eva-Dry unit has the auto shut-off function to prevent any spills when the water tank is full. The LED indicator on the front lights up when this happens. Emptying the tank is not a difficult task. Just slide it out from the dehumidifier, remove the cover, then drain the water.

Like most any mini dehumidifier, the EDV-1100 uses the whisper-quiet Peltier technology or thermoelectric cooling, which makes it a perfect choice even for a bedroom. It is also extremely easy to operate with just a single button for the power switch.

As you may have already guessed, the EDV-1100 covers an area of up to 1,100 cubic feet. It is the ultimate budget option for those who need a reliable dehumidifier but are concerned about their energy consumption. It only draws 22 Watts, so you can leave it running all day and barely make a difference in your bills.

On the downside, this unit is not built for heavy-duty use. Most Peltier dehumidifiers are designed to work under average conditions for shorter periods. Their optimal operating temperatures are usually from 65°F to 86°F. But for a small room with minimal moisture, the Eva-Dry is one of the best mini dehumidifiers you can find.

Pros

  • Small, lightweight, and portable
  • Low energy consumption
  • Whisper quiet operation
  • Easy to use

Cons

  • Very limited operating temperature range
  • Light-duty components may need repair or replacement

EDV-2200 Mid-Sized Dehumidifier

EDV-2200 Mid-Sized Dehumidifier

The Eva-Dry EDV-2200 uses the same thermoelectric cooling technology but with a slightly larger capacity and coverage area. It can quickly and efficiently remove up to 20 ounces (600 ml) of moisture in the air while the tank can hold 2 liters. This model is ideal for high-humidity small areas within 2,200 cubic feet in size.

It also has the auto shutoff function to prevent water overflow, as well as an LED indicator light to tell you when you need to empty the tank. It is incredibly easy to use and maintain. Similar to the 1100, this unit has just one button for the on/off switch. When the tank is full, simply pull it out, open the lid, and empty the water into your sink.

Being light, portable, and quiet, you can use this small dehumidifier anywhere you need. Running on 72 Watts, it is one of the most cost-efficient options for a tiny bathroom or bedroom with humidity issues.

Pros

  • Small, lightweight, and portable
  • Low energy consumption
  • Whisper quiet operation
  • Easy to use

Cons

  • Very limited operating temperature range
  • Light-duty components may need repair or replacement

How Do Eva-Dry Dehumidifiers Work?

Eva-Dry dehumidifiers use different methods of moisture removal. In compact units, desiccant and Peltier technologies are commonly used.

Desiccant

There are different types of desiccant models based on the size and renewability. The main component of this type is the desiccant material. It is a chemical which absorbs or adsorbs moisture from the air. When its full capacity is reached, you will need to either throw it out (as is the case with disposable moisture absorbers), or heat it up for a few hours, like the E-333 and E-500.

Desiccant substances such as the silica gel are always thirsty. They will keep adsorbing moisture in the air until the silica gel beads are fully saturated. Plugging the unit will dry out the moisture, effectively renewing the desiccant so it can adsorb moisture again.

Eva-Dry also has a newer full-sized desiccant model, but they are limited in stock.

Peltier Technology

The method used in a mini dehumidifier like the 1100 and 2200 is called thermoelectric cooling or Peltier effect. It is based on the idea that a voltage of electricity creates a difference in temperature between the two sides of the Peltier module.

Humid air is drawn by a small fan on one end of the unit and enters through the other, colder side on the front of the unit. The moisture condenses and drips down to the water tank. The cold, dry air then passes through the hot side. Warmer, dryer air exits through this side.

A Peltier unit works not that differently from a refrigerant-based dehumidifier, but instead of using a compressor to cool the air, a Peltier dehumidifier converts the current into a temperature gradient. As is the case with compressor models, the efficiency also decreases in cooler temperatures.

Where to Use Eva-Dry Products

Eva-Dry compact dehumidifiers are great for removing excess moisture in all small spaces. The most optimal use for wireless units are in storage areas. Excess moisture can cause moldy or musty odors and damage your stored goods in tightly enclosed spaces such as closets, cabinets, gun safe, kitchen pantry, or a car. Just place the Eva-Dry E-333 in a corner or hang it up and you’ll quickly notice less moisture and odors.

These mini devices can be used to reduce humidity in small areas of the house that are prone to heavy moisture content. Tiny bathrooms become humid quickly after a shower. Washing and drying clothes also makes the laundry room a hotbed for moisture, which can lead to mold growth. With a mini dehumidifier, you can stop moisture right away before it creeps into other areas of your home.

Due to the low noise levels during operation, you can use a mini dehumidifier in bedrooms to remove moisture and dust, reducing the risk of allergies. A compact size dehumidifier is also useful in small basements where you store tools, equipment, musical instruments, and furniture.

Small apartments or vacation homes can benefit from reduced humidity and odors. A compact yet efficient dehumidifier is also a must have in boats and camping trailers where all of your activities are performed in a limited space. A dehumidifier can protect clothes and other belongings in your storage from the damaging effects of mold due to high humidity levels.

Getting the Right Size

Just like with any type of dehumidifier, it is absolutely essential to get the right size for your space. Measure the length, width, and height of the room to get the correct size of dehumidifier. For example, the E-333 will be just enough for a 5×8 feet space, if the ceiling height is 8 feet. Due to its capacity, the E-333 as well as the bigger E-500 is more ideal for small, enclosed spaces like wardrobes or cupboards instead of a full size room.

As a further example, the EDV-1100 can cover a 10×13 feet room with an 8 feet high ceiling, while the 2200 can go up to 10 x 27 feet. Depending on how much moisture is in the air, it is highly recommended that you get a bigger size dehumidifier than you actually need. This way, you will not overwork the unit and help it last longer.

Final Say About Eva-Dry

In the past decade, Eva-Dry products have been widely used for many different occasions. Since they are small and cheap, most of the complaints are about the build quality and longevity of the units. Like other mini dehumidifiers, they are manufactured in China and have yet to receive an official certification.

A lot of the negative reviews mention that the units are not effective in reducing humidity. Although, to be fair, these problems can be avoided if they only use the correct size. That is why the first thing you need to consider when purchasing a dehumidifier is the dimensions and moisture content of your space.

As for the quality of the components, you can expect a lightweight and inexpensive device such as the Eva-Dry mini dehumidifiers to be made up of equally inexpensive and consequently low-quality materials. For their price though, this is one of the best deals you’ll find.
