DeLonghi is one of the most popular brands on the market when it comes to products like electronics and appliances; they specialize in small appliances, such as electric kettles, coffee makers, toasters, or coffee grinders, but they also make some of the best air purifiers and dehumidifiers. Thus, we have to grant them more attention in our list of reviews; today we review one of their latest products, the DeLonghi Tasciugo AriaDry, which promises to be both efficient and quiet!

One of the problems that most room dehumidifiers suffer is a rather heightened noise output, which is why it can be difficult to find one that could be used in the bedroom without disturbing us from sleep. This model comes with several other interesting features as well, such as ensuring a safer atmosphere, and better air in the home. It can remove excess moisture created by human activities like cooking or showering, but eliminate some of the unpleasant odors as well, and prevent the formation of mold or mildew. Thus, it protects both home and human, but we shall be better convinced of that after taking a closer look at its characteristics.

Design

In appearance, this unit is very similar to other products in its category, in size, functionality and even color. What makes it slightly different, however, is the unique use of design which manages to make it look smaller and slimmer; thus, instead of presenting the wider side as its front side, the Tasciugo faces us with its narrowest side, thus appearing more elegant and sleek. It is advertised as being only 17 centimeters in width, but it is also 28.9 centimeters in depth and 47 centimeters in height. Moreover, it is promoted as being the lightest one in its category, weighing about 5.5 kilograms (12 pounds). The absorbing fans are located on the sides, the control panel is on top and is accompanied by an easy-reach handle; the front side is silver gray, and at its bottom, the 2-liter water container is a pull-out. However, it is not like regular containers that are easily spilled; the container features a lid with a handle, so you can easily transport it to the nearest drain without spilling anything.

Features

The DeLonghi Tasciugo is quite well endowed and will fulfill several functions in your home. First of all, it has an adjustable, electronic humidistat that allows you to select with precision the levels of humidity you want; it is most efficient in spaces of up to 600 square feet or about 55 square meters. It features three power levels, or rather three fan speeds: low, high, and automatic. The 8-hour delay timer allows you to program it to start functioning at a later hour, and even though the moisture container only has about 2 liters or about 4 pints, it has an auto-shutoff function when it senses the container has been filled. It even has a swing function, which takes the role of optimizing air distribution and dehumidification. Other features are the dry function and the electronic anti-frost device, which ensures it will function at lower temperatures as well.

The Auto setting automatically detects whether there is too much humidity in the air, and adapts its fan speeds to reduce it to normal levels; when this happens, it goes into standby only to start functioning again if the levels become high again. The Dry function can be used to help your clothes dry out; if you hang them on your balcony or in your dryer room. It has electronic controls with LED digital display and light indicators, and a Tank Control System, as previously mentioned. However, the water level can also be visible from the tank, so there are virtually no risks of an over spillage. Furthermore, the separate Ionizer and anti-dust filter also ensure the air is sent back cleaner and free of more common contaminants. It is by no means an air purifier, but it can eliminate odors or smoke, and clean larger particles of particulate matter from the air.
The dehumidifier also has a continuous draining facility, so you can even leave it unsupervised if you connect it to a drain hole. Its maximum capacity can reach about 18 liters per day or about 39 pints of moisture – this is possible at the clothing dry function, which uses maximum fan speed. What seems to make this unit rather special is the minimal noise output; at its lowest fan setting, it produces a mere 34 decibels, which is indeed impressive for a unit of its size and capacity. It is obvious that higher fan settings will produce more noise, but it only reaches a maximum of 44 decibels! Overall, it does seem to be one of the quietest, if not the quietest on the market, and it is below whisper level, so for some at least, it might just be suitable for use in the bedroom as well.
It may not be energy efficient, but it does present enough features to make it at least consumption-aware. It auto shutoff function ensures it will not consume more than needed, as does the Auto fan speed. However, it does not use any refrigerant gasses, so it is rather environmentally-aware. Where performance is concerned, the Tasciugo is not the most efficient dehumidifier on the market, but it is suitable enough. Clearing up to 18 liters or moisture per day from areas as large as 500 square feet can be quite satisfactory, so it is the type of product you would purchase for minimal to moderate humidity problems. Its quietness is impressive, however, and the product also offers some air purification services.

Other Considerations

Utilizing this product is no different than using any other similar product; the control panel is straightforward and allows you to set functions according to your needs and the humidistat gives you accurate readings of humidity levels. The water container seems particularly easy to use, thanks to its lid and handle; normal front pull containers often present a higher risk of spilling the water when you take them out, but this one is more than user-friendly. All these qualities can be purchased at the price of about $200, but the price may vary depending on country and retailer. The warranty covers 2 years for defects and labor, which is about twice as better than what most dehumidifiers usually receive.

It works in temperatures as low as 40 degrees F so you can use it in the cold season even if the room you place it in is not heated.

The DeLonghi Tasciugo AriaDry produces only 34 dB while it operates. Therefore, it’s silent enough to be placed in a room like a bedroom or nursery.

I have this dehumidifier in my bedroom. Besides delivering a great performance that has made me dependent on it, I can say that it is very easy to move the unit around as well. Weighing only 12 pounds, it wasn’t difficult at all to put it in the basement during the day and move it back in the bedroom before I went to bed.
